WHAT IS IPL SKIN REJUVENATION?

IPL Skin Rejuvenation is a safe and effective treatment that improves skin appearance by targeting unwanted pigmentation, broken capillaries, redness, acne, and age spots using gentle pulses of intense light. At That Face Place, we use the advanced Nordlys IPL system, which combines Intense Pulsed Light with cutting-edge technology to precisely target problem areas while minimising discomfort and protecting healthy skin.

Treatment breakdown

Treatment Uses:

Sun damage

Pigmentation

Vascular concerns

Overall skin tone improvement

Downtime:

Minimal; some redness or mild swelling may occur, usually resolving within 2-3 hours. Pigmentation may darken and have a speckled appearance, which will shed naturally with skin cell turnover in 7-10 days. Capillaries might appear inflamed or red initially, or may collapse entirely.

Duration:

A full consultation prior to treatment typically takes around 15-20 minutes. The IPL treatment itself usually lasts about 45 minutes for the face, or up to 1 hour for the face, neck, and décolletage.

Longevity:

While improvements can be seen after just one treatment, optimal results usually require multiple sessions. Pigmentation and vascular issues generally continue to improve with ongoing treatments. While IPL can significantly reduce these concerns, they may return over time due to factors like sun exposure or aging. Regular maintenance treatments can help keep your skin looking its best.

Pregnancy Safety:

Not safe while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Prior to Treatment:

Avoid Excessive Sun Exposure and Fake Tan: Refrain from sun exposure and artificial tanning (fake/spray) for at least two weeks before your treatment. Use SPF to protect your skin and enhance treatment results. Inform your dermal therapist of any recent UV exposure.

Discontinue Topical Products: Stop using topical vitamin A (retinol) 3 days before your treatment.

Medication and Health Considerations: Please inform us of any medications you are taking and any health conditions that may affect your treatment.

Registration and Consent: You will receive a registration and consent form via text message. Please complete these forms before your appointment to streamline the process upon arrival.

What to Expect During Your Appointment:

Comprehensive Consultation: You will receive a thorough consultation, including clinical photography and detailed discussions about your skin concerns and treatment goals. We will also review your at-home skincare routine and ensure your skin is adequately prepped for the treatment.

Personalised Treatment Plan: We will create a treatment plan tailored to your needs and preferences, considering your aesthetic goals and financial considerations.

Appointment Duration: A full consultation typically takes 15-20 minutes. The IPL treatment lasts about 45 minutes for the face or up to 1 hour for the face, neck, and décolletage.

Treatment Process: Your skin therapist will cleanse the face and apply a conductor gel. The IPL device emits gentle pulses of light to target pigmentation and vascular concerns. You may feel a mild tingling sensation similar to a rubber band snap. Post-treatment products, including SPF, will be applied.

Pain Relief Options: Ice can be applied post-treatment to alleviate discomfort. Numbing cream is not used as it can affect the device’s performance.

Post-Treatment Care and What to Expect:

Skin Appearance: Your skin may appear inflamed and red, similar to a mild sunburn. Existing pigmentation might darken for the first 2-3 days and have a speckled appearance, which will gradually slough off with natural skin cell turnover over 7-10 days. Capillaries may look inflamed and red immediately after treatment or may have collapsed entirely.

Swelling: Mild swelling can occur, typically resolving within 2-3 hours. Taking an antihistamine is recommended if needed.

Apply Ice/Cool Compress: Use an ice pack or cool compress to relieve discomfort and reduce swelling.

Avoid Sun Exposure: Protect treated areas from sun exposure to prevent scarring, colour changes, and poor healing. Use SPF daily to prevent damage and further pigmentation.

Avoid Makeup: Do not apply makeup to the treated area for 24 hours to allow the skin to recover and reduce the risk of irritation.

Avoid Certain Activities: Refrain from excessive heat (e.g., saunas) and strenuous exercise for the first 24 hours or until the skin has healed.

Delay Other Facial Treatments: Postpone other facial treatments, such as chemical peels or laser procedures, for at least 4 weeks.

When Will I See Results?

Improvements can be seen after just one treatment, with optimal results usually visible after multiple sessions. Pigmentation and vascular issues will continue to improve with ongoing treatments. While IPL significantly reduces these concerns, they may recur over time due to factors like sun exposure or aging. Regular maintenance treatments help keep your skin looking its best.

Follow-Up Appointment:

It is recommended to schedule a follow-up appointment at 4 weeks to review your results. We will take clinical images and assess the outcome. If needed, additional treatments for stubborn areas can be discussed and scheduled during this appointment.
