IPL Skin Rejuvenation is a popular choice for anyone wanting to elevate their complexion and minimise pigmentation, redness and broken capillaries. This IPL treatment uses gentle pulses of intense light to target specific colours in the skin, helping to clear visible concerns and improve overall tone. At That Face Place, we use the advanced Nordlys system which delivers precise, effective IPL treatment results while keeping discomfort and downtime low.
What IPL Treatment Can Address
IPL treatment is a versatile option designed to support the appearance of sun damage, pigmentation, vascular concerns, redness and uneven tone. Many clients notice brighter skin after just one IPL treatment, with continued improvement across a recommended treatment plan.
Downtime
One of the biggest advantages of an IPL treatment is the minimal downtime. You may experience mild redness or swelling for a couple of hours. Pigmentation may darken and look speckled before shedding naturally over 7 to 10 days. Capillaries can appear red or inflamed at first or may collapse entirely. All of these responses are common signs that the IPL treatment is working.
Treatment Duration
Your appointment begins with a consultation that takes around 15 to 20 minutes. The IPL treatment itself usually takes 45 minutes for the face or up to 1 hour for the face, neck and décolletage.
How IPL Long Results Last
Most clients notice improvement after one IPL treatment, though pigmentation and vascular concerns respond best to a series of sessions. While IPL treatment can significantly reduce these concerns, they may gradually return due to sun exposure and natural ageing. Maintenance IPL treatment sessions help keep the skin bright and even over time.
Pregnancy Safety
IPL treatment is not suitable during pregnancy or breastfeeding.
Before Your IPL Treatment
Proper preparation helps support optimal IPL treatment results. Avoid sun exposure and fake tan for two weeks before your appointment. Pause topical vitamin A for three days prior. Inform your therapist of any medications or health conditions. You will also receive registration and consent forms to complete before arriving.
What Happens During Your IPL Treatment Appointment
Your visit begins with a comprehensive consultation, clinical photographs and a review of your skincare routine. A personalised IPL treatment plan is then created to suit your skin goals and budget. During the treatment, your therapist will cleanse the skin, apply conductor gel and use the IPL device to deliver targeted pulses of light. You may feel a light snapping sensation. Calming products and SPF will be applied afterwards. Numbing cream is not used in IPL treatment as it can interfere with the device.
Post IPL Treatment Care and What to Expect
Your skin may look pink or slightly inflamed immediately after the IPL treatment. Pigmentation will darken over the next few days and appear speckled before shedding naturally. Mild swelling may settle within 2 to 3 hours. Use cool compresses if needed. Avoid sun exposure completely and apply SPF daily. Avoid makeup for 24 hours and skip heavy exercise, hot showers and saunas for the first day. Wait at least four weeks before any laser or advanced facial treatments.
When Will I See IPL Treatment Results?
Many clients see visible improvement after their first IPL treatment, with best results achieved after multiple sessions. Ongoing IPL treatment maintenance can help keep the skin clear, bright and even long term.
Follow Up Appointment
A follow up is recommended at the 4 week mark to assess results, take updated clinical photographs and discuss whether additional IPL treatment sessions are required for stubborn areas.
